Imperfect Paradise

San Diego is one of the most beautiful places in the world, but modern society also fundamentally requires ugly things to function. This photo project is a study of the ugly things that make it possible for San Diego to be beautiful.

My main inspiration for this project is documenting and examining the infrastructure that enables a modern city to function, and how that infrastructure takes up space in the public place. I have intentionally minimized the visibility of actual humans, focusing instead on our existence within the context of our environment and how we have molded that environment to our needs.
